There is a new redesign update pushed out by Google for Custom Search Mobile Layout and it includes a redesigned search box with refinements, thumbnails and pagination.

Google has been known to keep updating their software experience whenever they feel the need for it. As a result of all these updates, end user gets the best experience possible for Google or at least that is the aim from the company. Very recently, Google’s Custom Search has updated yet again and is now presenting users with a new mobile layout design. Many different features including search box and refinements, thumbnails and pagination are getting a refreshed look as a result of this update.

Mostly, these new changes will affect mobile searchers with only some breaking through to desktop as well. However, this is majorly a design overhaul and not a schematic update by any means. Users on their mobile platforms can now expect a uniformity in design across different apps and Google search design at the same time.

Exactly What Has Changed?

Considering this is only a design update, there are still noticeable changes apparent for a regular user. Some of the updated features include:

  • Search box and refinements now look much more distinct
  • Thumbnail size has increased and is now much more pronounced
  • Pagination now looks a lot simpler still offering same functionality

Also, the option to disable the mobile-specific changes for site owners is still available by setting the “mobileLayout” attribute of the search element to “disabled”.

What This Actually Means?

From the offset, one thing clear to all marketers on Google is that user needs a fluid experience if you are to convert them into business leads or actual searchers at the very least. Especially, when users try to find or locate something in particular on your site, their experience of doing so will contribute to their final decisions. This new update for Custom Search Layout aims to improve just that and will also hope to improve behavioral success metrics as an ongoing result.

This will affect a great percentage of searchable websites. Informative or any other websites that monetize using AdSense search ads, which add a custom search engine to the site through suitable configuration, might also become much more likely to earn more from their mobile traffic. This is of course good news for a lot of websites who are there to do business in many different forms.

The prior Custom Search Blog update was back in July, 2018. More than 630,000 sites use this product and will see the benefits because of this design change. What is quite obvious through this layout refresh is the fact that Google has not forgotten about its Custom Search Engine and still pays attention to it. Hopefully, we will see more updates for this feature improving the whole thing much further. Fact of the matter remains that this layout refresh will be beneficial for a lot of websites who follow the right procedures as setup by Google.
