Google Business Profile is the New Google My Business

Yet again Google My Business has a new name. It will now be known as Google Business Profile instead. This isn’t the first time Google has done this as well. There have been many different names given to the product by Google in the past couple of decades. The important take is to remember it by the new name and the way you access it as well.

Back in 2014, Google My Business was the name given to the same product previously known as Google+ Local. Before that, it was renamed Google Places in 2010 and in 2007, Google Local Business Center. There might be a couple more names of the products that could’ve come and gone. However, at the core, the functionality remains the same with of course some tweaks here and there.

According to Google, the main aim of doing this is allow businesses to manage their listings in Google Search and/or Google Maps. So, to manage listings, this is the new recommended way instead of going in Google My Business or as it is now called Google Business Profile manager. Businesses can simply search their business in Google Search and Maps to edit it right there. Google has been hinting the move towards this for some time now. Searching your business name should be all you need to access it. However, businesses managing multiple listings including Local SEOs or chains will still be able to use the new Google Profile Manager.

Owners can also claim their business directly through search results even without accessing it through the Google Business Profile Manager. The Google My Business mobile app will soon see its plug being pulled by the company as well. Businesses will be notified to manage it through Google Search or Google Maps app directly. This is a good move simplifying things for business owners in our opinion. Other updates include call history and read receipts for messaging. These are updates most of us have been waiting on for some time.
